Day 2 - Jenn
The goal of day 2 was to get to Mt Laguna before the store closed. At least that became the goal when we started talking about cold beers and cheeseburgers. It was a stretch- 24 miles is a good chunk of distance when traveling by foot. The three of us took off together and pretty quickly figured out our own paces- we would hike together and talk for a bit, then space out for a while before eventually reconvening at a shady spot for a snack. At one point I had been on my own for at least an hour when I came around the corner to find Cam. He said he hadn't seen Matt for quite a while- and what a beast he was for his quick pace. As the last work left his mouth I heard Matt's bird call come from behind a tree, followed by him frantically waving a tattered piece of paper exclaiming "I was just leaving you a note!". He had his bandanna tucked under his hat and was lookin a little kooky. He took off at an ungodly speed promising he would buy us water and gatorades if he made it to the store in time. So off he went, and then off we went. Cam and I hit Mt Laguna at around 4:30 and he promptly ducked into the cafe for a burger- I promptly got rid of my stupid egg crate sleeping pad for a neo air xlite blow up one. After refueling on the beverages Matt got and doling out half of our food to the hiker box (complete over estimation of what we needed to eat)- we snuck into a closed campsite at the recommendation of a local store owner and got a little fire going. I listened to Matt and Cam tell gross stories while my new cloud of comfort cradled my aching body.
